Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a way of getting to know the different parts of you, like the part that worries or the part that keeps everyone happy. Step by step
What an IFS informed session looks like
- We start with what is happening now. You share what brings you here, in English, Spanish or Italian.
- We notice a part. Maybe a feeling, a thought or a sensation in the body that keeps showing up.
- We get curious about it. What is it trying to do for you? What is it afraid might happen if it stopped?
- You stay in charge. Nothing is forced. We go at the pace that feels safe for you.

Common questions about IFS informed therapy
What is IFS therapy?
IFS stands for Internal Family Systems. It is a model of therapy that works with the different parts of your mind. It sees each part as trying to help in its own way, even when it causes pain. IFS invites you to get to know these parts with curiosity rather than judgement.
Is IFS the same as parts work?
Not exactly. Parts work is the general idea of working with the different parts of yourself. IFS is one specific model of parts work.
