Why people reach out

Who ACT may help

ACT does not try to get rid of hard thoughts or feelings. It looks at how you relate to them and at what you want your life to be about. These are some of the reasons people often come to therapy.

  • Anxiety and overthinking

People often come when worry fills the day and the mind keeps going back to the same things.

  • Low mood

Some come when everything feels heavy and it is hard to connect with what used to matter.

  • OCD

Others come when intrusive thoughts and repeated rituals take up a lot of time and energy.

  • Body image

People often come when it is hard to step back from thoughts about food, weight or their body.

  • Life changes and migration

Some come after moving countries or another big change, while they are still finding their place.

  • Relationship difficulties

Others come when the same arguments or patterns keep repeating with a partner, family or friends.

What a session looks like

ACT step by step

  1. Noticing your thoughts. You practise seeing thoughts for what they are, just thoughts, so you can notice them without getting hooked.
  2. Making room for feelings. Instead of pushing painful feelings away, you find ways to let them be there while you carry on with your day.
  3. Clarifying what matters. With Constanza you look at your values, the kind of person you want to be and what you care about.
  4. Small committed steps. You choose small actions that move you towards what matters. In the next session you and Constanza look at how they went.
  5. Mindfulness along the way. Short mindfulness exercises are a way to come back to the present moment when your mind pulls you somewhere else.

Each session lasts 60 minutes and moves at your pace. Constanza uses ACT together with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and mindfulness, depending on what you need.
